Riot fears grow for New Year

FRENCH authorities are readying themselves for an increase in the severity of violence that marks the New Year.

Following the riots across France in November, emergency measures have been brought in with some councils banning the sale of petrol in small canisters.

The burning of cars by youths each New Year’s Eve seems to have become something of a tradition and many fear an escalation of violence this year.
