High taxes in France

Euronotes2907_2THE French pay the most tax amongst the seven leading industrialised nations according to recent research.

A study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) found that France's tax burden as a percentage of gross domestic product last year rose to 43.7%, from 43.4% a year earlier.

Their work also shows that just 25 per cent of tax revenue in France comes from personal and corporate taxes.

In comparison, the UK paid 36.1% of GDP in taxation whilst the US paid just 25.4%.
