Frejus tunnel re-opens
THE Frejus tunnel that links France and Italy, which was badly damaged by fire two months ago, will re-open later this week.
Two lorry drivers were killed in the blaze last June, but French Transportation Minister Dominique Perben said the tunnel will be in operation from Thursday.
The tunnel will be open to small vehicles at first with alternating times for larger trucks, vehicles carrying dangerous substances will be barred for the month of August.
The Frejus tunnel runs between Modane (Savoie-France) and Bardonecchia (Piemont-Italy) for a length of 13 kilometres.

At the moment larger vehicles are being allowed through on an alternating basis, an hour in each direction

i am travelling by car from Italy to France in Dec 2007, is the tunnel open for all vehicles at all times
