No new speed cameras

Car_ren_1402THE Transport Minister Dominique Perben has said that there will be no additional speed cameras on French roads in 2006.

Speaking in the French press he said that a target figure of 1,000 cameras would be reached this year and that additional speed traps would not be deployed.

He also said that plans to enforce the use of dipped headlights by car drivers during the day would be shelved until a thorough understanding of the current voluntary scheme was available.

Motorcycle groups staged protests over the plans saying that it was difficult for motorists to see them amongst heavy traffic.
