A REPORT describes the French as pessimistic, wracked with doubt and disillusioned with government and politics in general.
The study by French prefects, the country’s main civil servants, says that people are in such a morose state of mind they have few positive thoughts for the future.
The Scotsman newspaper reports that the findings were held back for a month, and the only benefit from the general malaise is that the country is in a state of peace and quiet.
But with a referendum on the European constitution coming up soon, and in the past week a round of strikes by unions, the findings are a wake up call for the political establishment.
